About me

Mrs. Saving Spree is a twentysomething year old with a staggering amount of student loan debt who decided to take action to pay off her debts as quickly as possible and still try to live a happy life while doing so. My husband and I both earned degrees in healthcare related fields; he graduated in 2015 and I graduated in the summer of 2016. After I graduated, we sat down and tallied up our student loan debt and decided it was time to get some serious help with our financial situation. We committed to stopping our spending spree and going on a ‘saving spree’ instead! A year later, after wandering through the somewhat muddy waters of financial management and planning, I decided to start a blog to share my story and what I have learned along the way while tackling our ‘Debt Monster.’ I discovered the FIRE community shortly after beginning our journey and while the “Retire Early” piece sounded nice, the often intense focus on frugality at the expense of relationships and current happiness did not feel like the right fit for our family. Read more here about my thoughts on FIRE. I’ve always enjoyed writing and have over the years developed a passion for personal finance, so blogging about our journey has become a hobby. Since starting the blog, we’ve moved several times, I left active duty military service, and we added a baby boy to the mix, so read on for a discussion of the financial ups and downs of it all!
